Welcome to our 9th news letter.

Dear Members, thank you to all who took part in the societies 50th show, I hope you were successful at some level on the day. The day went very smoothly with a great turn out of people exhibiting right through all classes and a good show of spectators from 2pm.

I would like to give a special mention to Bob Martindale and thank him personally and on your behalf the membership, for all his work throughout the many years as he announced at the Annual Show he would be taking a back seat from organizing the Show after 50 years.

Christmas Talk and buffet

I hope you have your tickets for this years Christmas talk and buffet if not please get in touch with Malcolm, Bob or myself. ASAP as there are limited numbers and we need to confirm the exact numbers for catering. This speaker will be the manager from the new Dobbies at Speke with the usual raffle and excellent food we have had at the Stobart Stadium before. Tickets are £7 for members and £8 for non members

                               

50th ANNUAL Show REPORT

Many thanks, to Mr Sayle for presenting the trophies, medals and certificates.

Bob Martindale, Show Manager for more years than can be recalled announced his retirement as Show Manager.

But he will be still very much in the picture helping out as and when needed.

What an excellent 50th Annual show. There was a great turn out of exhibitors totaling 55, producing 377 exhibits for over 150 spectators to come and view following the exhibits being judged by National judges. As always the classes included vegetable, fruit, flowers, domestic, handicraft, photography and children section, with the following trophy and medal winners in the respective categories.

 

Trophy and Medal Winners

Colin Taylor – Vegetable Section:- Carter Rose Bowl, Ford Trophy and NVS Medal. Also Dobson Cup for best vase of spray Chrysanthemums & Bradburn Trophy for most points in show.

John Smith – Chrysanthemum Section:- Committee Cup, TSB Trophy, NCS Silver Medal, & NCS Bronze Medal.

Philip Spark – Dahlia Section:– Norton Trophy, Miss Gossage Cup, NDS Silver Medal, NDS Bronze Medal & Martindale Shield for best Dahlia exhibit in Show.

R A Usher – C Martin Shield for most points in Rose Section.

P Fisher – NSG Services Group Trophy for most points in Container Plants & Flower Sections.

M Fahey – Holbrook Gaskell Cup for best exhibit in Container Plant Section.

M E Usher – Silver Candelabra for best exhibit of Floral Art.

Cynthia Mason – Cook Trophy for most points in Domestic Section.

Lydia Mason – Margaret Dobson Trophy for best exhibit in Domestic Section.

Mary Roach – Roland Robinson Cup for best exhibit in Handicraft Section.

Roy Page – Little Miss Gossage Cup for best exhibit in Photographic Section.

Victoria McMahon – Children’s Cup

 

Special Award

Long serving member Bob Martindale has received recognition for his dedication to the society from Halton Borough Council by receiving the Dedication to Culture award at The Brindley. The award came as a total surprise to Bob as he was unaware that he had been nominated by the society committee members.
